2022 Artist's Statement

I’ve decided this page to be more like a blog style, since my style is continuously changing.

In 2007, when I started oil painting, I was obsessed with Mandalas, geometric art, Op-Art. I did try painting some landscapes and portraits etc., but was very disappointed with the results. In 2018, my focus seemed to shift toward realism, I realized that I was more and more able to do this, and started an intense pursuit, copying other artists in order to understand technique and composition, as well as venturing out ‘on my own’. Now, in 2022, I feel a bit like I’m ‘coming into my own’…. as a child, I doodled obsessively, filling out pages and pages divided comic book style with continuous stories, mostly of travel, moving, children, injuries healing…. I used to love adding little characters/pets/items onto the photos of catalogues and magazines - it seems that in my more recent realism paintings little creatures/people/objects sneak into the image and often hide in plain sight.
